OK, we have come up with some options, but are still open to suggestions. I really like the Bearded Collie, the Australian Shepherd and the Boxer. The Bernese Mountain Dog seems to come up a lot, too. We have found several German Shepherd mixes that seem appealing, too. Does anyone have any thoughts on these breeds or others that might fit our needs based on the criteria of my last post? Thanks again for the help!

I do know that Australian Shepherds are great looking dogs. They are a little hyperactive though. Not sure how they would be around children. Great Pyrenees are wonderful dogs. There are usually alot of rescues available. I think that most people get them without knowing what to expect and then abandon them. They are a large breed, but great with kids. There is not much drooling, except when drinking. If you are concerned about strong-willed dogs you may consider the female instead of a male. They are very loyal and protective, which is two of their greatest attributes. Good luck.
